Iranwire – Rasoul Badaghi, the inspector of the Tehran Teachers’ Trade Union, was conditionally released from Evin Prison on Sunday evening.

The well-known teachers’ rights activist has been arrested multiple times for his union activities and has spent many years in prison.
Badaghi was dismissed from the Ministry of Education in 2011 due to his union activism.
He was arrested at his home on December 11, 2021, and released on bail after 10 days.
His arrest was carried out with violence by security forces. During the raid, agents confiscated many personal belongings belonging to him and his wife, including their mobile phones and personal computers.
In April 2022, the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced Badaghi to four years in prison for “assembly and collusion” and one year for “propaganda activities against the Islamic Republic.”
As additional punishment, he was banned from leaving the country and prohibited from residing in Tehran and all neighboring provinces for two years.
His request for a retrial regarding the charges of assembly and collusion and propaganda against the Islamic Republic was accepted by the Supreme Court in March 2024.
The Coordinating Council of Iranian Teachers’ Trade Associations, while congratulating Badaghi’s resilient family, colleagues, and the Iranian people on his release, has called for the immediate and unconditional release of all imprisoned teachers and union activists.
