Iranwire – The Islamic Republic’s security forces have arrested a member of the Baha’i religious minority and transferred her to a Ministry of Intelligence’s detention center.
Negar Misaghian, mother of two, was arrested on Wednesday in southern Shiraz.
Several security agents came to Misaghian’s home, arrested her, and transferred her to the Ministry of Intelligence’s detention facility in Shiraz, known as House No 100, according to HRANA human rights news agency.
The agents also searched the premises and confiscated several personal items, including her mobile phone, laptop, and passport.
The Iranian government does not recognize the Baha’i faith, and its followers have faced reported systematic discrimination in the country for decades.
For more than four decades, Baha’is have been persecuted in Iran because of their faith and are often accused of being spies or opposed to the Iranian government.
The Baha’i International Community states that no evidence has been provided to substantiate these charges.
The Iranian government has intensified its crackdown on members of the Baha’i faith, imprisoning dozens of them on spurious charges over the past year, denying them access to higher education and livelihoods, and confiscating or destroying their personal properties.
