Iranian Families Struggle with Sharp Hike in School Supply Costs

Iranwire – As the new school year approaches, Iranian families face mounting concerns over the rising costs of school supplies.

Mohsen Golestani, head of the Tehran Stationery Union, has revealed the factors contributing to the price hikes in an interview with the Mizan news agency.

Power outages during the crucial summer production season have significantly disrupted the manufacturing of stationery items, leading to supply shortages and subsequent price increases, he said.

Golestani explained, “Most of the stationery in the country is usually produced in the summer season, which unfortunately caused a negative impact on the production process due to the recent power outages in factories.”

Additionally, the increasing costs of petrochemical products, which are essential raw materials for many domestic stationery items, have further driven up prices.

The situation is compounded by currency exchange rate fluctuations affecting imported goods and raw materials in Iran, creating a ripple effect on domestically produced items as well.

The rise in stationery prices has become an annual challenge for parents preparing for their kids’ school year.

Combined with the soaring costs of school services and uniforms, it presents a significant financial burden for many families.

Many families now opt to extend their purchases throughout the school year to manage costs.
