According to a report from the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the sentence was recently handed down by Branch 1 of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Court in Dehgolan, presided over by Judge Rostami Ahmar.

The court’s decision, officially announced on Wednesday, July 31, includes six months of mandatory imprisonment and 36 months of suspended imprisonment.

The charges against Amiri include “collaborating with one of the Kurdish opposition parties” and “propaganda against the government.”

Amiri, known for his work in drug-addiction prevention and treatment, had his initial hearing in April 2024.

The case has drawn attention to the treatment of civil society activists in Iran, particularly those from ethnic minority-dominated regions.
