Iranwire – Iranian security forces have arrested a member of the Baha’i religious minority and transferred him to an undisclosed location.
Matin Fahandej Saadi, a 34-year-old Baha’i adherent living in the Iranian city of Kerman, was arrested by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) intelligence forces.
Saadi was reportedly taken into custody on Monday. IRGC intelligence agents raided the location, confiscating personal belongings and surveillance camera footage.
Fahandej Saadi was then transported to an undisclosed location. His family has been unable to obtain any information about the charges against him or his current whereabouts.
The Iranian government does not recognize the Baha’i faith, and its followers have faced systematic discrimination for decades.
For more than four decades, Baha’is have been persecuted in Iran because of their faith and are often accused of being spies or opposed to the Iranian government.
The Baha’i International Community states that no evidence has been provided to substantiate these charges.
The Iranian government has intensified its crackdown on members of the Baha’i faith, imprisoning dozens of them on spurious charges over the past year, denying them access to higher education and livelihoods, and confiscating or destroying their personal properties.
