Iranwire – Mobina Nematzadeh, a 19-year-old Iranian taekwondo player, clinched a bronze medal in the women’s taekwondo competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Wednesday.
Nematzadeh secured third place in the minus 49 kg category by defeating her Saudi opponent.
She dominated the first round with a 3-0 victory, and secured the bronze with a 4-2 advantage in the second round.
It makes Nematzadeh the second woman in Iranian sports history to win an Olympic medal, following in the footsteps of Kimia Alizadeh.
The taekwondo competitions continue on Thursday. In the opening match, another Iranian athlete, Nahid Kiani, will face Kimia Alizadeh, who is competing under the Bulgarian flag.
