Iranwire – Iranian security police officers have arrested Jan Mohammad Ahmadi, a retired teacher and union activist in the province of Fars.
Ahmadi was apprehended with an arrest warrant at his residence in the city of Mamasani, and then was brought to the City Prosecutor’s Office, where he was explained the charges he faced.
The activist was subsequently transferred to prison, to spend one month in pretrial detention.
According to IranWire sources, the case stems from Ahmadi’s participation in a protest rally of retirees held on December 5.
Teachers have frequently faced repression from security forces in recent years.
Between 2022 and 2023, over 300 of them were detained by security forces, while hundreds were summoned to supervisory, security and judicial institutions.
The Ministry of Education has temporarily or permanently suspended and dismissed dozens of teachers for alleged disciplinary violations.
