US Lawmakers Commend “Brave” Iranian Protesters, Condemn “Murderous Regime”

Iranwire – The US House of Representatives has overwhelmingly passed a bipartisan resolution expressing solidarity with Iranian anti-government protesters amid a bloody crackdown by the Islamic Republic on dissent.

The 420-1 vote marked the latest round of international condemnation against the Iranian authorities, whose clampdown on more than four months of widespread protests has killed hundreds of people.

“The murderous regime in Iran continues its violent crackdown on its citizens’ rights and civil liberties,” said Claudia Tenney, who introduced the resolution with Congressmen Josh Gottheimer and Michael McCaul.

“Today, the House reaffirmed with one voice our commitment to support these brave protestors, who are more resolved than ever to fight this regime.”

The passage of the resolution comes days after the United States, the European Union and the United Kingdom issued new sanctions on dozens of Iranian individuals and entities over the Islamic Republic’s deadly crackdown on dissent.

Iranian security forces have killed more than 500 people, including dozens of children, and detained over 19,000, activists say.

Around 20 people have been handed capital punishment in connection with the protests. Four of them have been executed so far amid international outrage.
