Iran Detains Two French Nationals, One Belgian On Espionage Charges

RFL/RE – Two French nationals and one Belgian citizen have been arrested in Iran for alleged espionage and conspiracy against the country’s national security. The semiofficial ISNA student news agency on January 3 quoted Masoud Satayshi, a spokesman for the State Judiciary, as saying that investigations into the case were ongoing. He gave no further details. Iranian security forces have taken some 40 foreign nationals into custody, often without revealing any charges, since mass protests broke out across the country over the death of a woman while in police custody.
