Iranian writer Hamed Esmaeilion posted on Instagram that protests are being planned in more than 100 cities globally. His posts shared details of demonstrations planned across Europe, North and South America and in other regions.

A group of young people in Tehran have also published a statement, asking people across sections of society to gather in front of the capital’s major universities to coincide with the global protests.

The statement declared that “the people of Tehran have a duty to gather and show their support for the protestors”.

Videos posted on social media suggest that, despite widespread suppression of protesters and severe disruption to internet access, protests took place across Iran on Thursday and Friday, including in Tehran, Mashhad, Qom, Varamin, Shiraz, Abadan, Yazd, Kermanshah, Rasht, Bandar Abbas, Kerman, Jiroft, Sanandaj and Sardasht.

International celebrities continue to voice their support for the Iranian people, including actress Jennifer Aniston, who reposted photos about the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini on Instagram.

Since the start of protests across Iran, sparked by the death of Amini, hundreds of people, including several children under the age of 18, have been arrested and more than 80 people have been killed.
