Instagram Blocked in Parts of Iran

Iranwire – As anti-government protests continued in Iran on Wednesday, Instagram users inside the country report their access to the platform – one of the few social media sites usually allowed by the regime – has been blocked.

Individual users’ ability to get onto Instagram is being severely disrupted, especially on mobile internet services. In some parts of the country it is currently impossible to reach from an Iranian IP address without a VPN.

Iranian government officials and the Ministry of Communications have not yet issued a formal statement on the current Instagram policy. Access to the World Wide Web was shut down in Kurdistan province earlier this week, just as it was in November 2019, at the outset of a lethal state crackdown on nationwide protests.
