Ailing Iranian political prisoner denied much-needed medical treatment

Iran-HRM – Political prisoner Kasra Bani Amerian detained in section 8 of Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison, suffered irreparable mental tension following harassment by prison agents.

The political prisoner who suffers from polyneuropathy,  a progressive nerve disease, has been detained in section 8 since November 2020 despite the fact that the prison clinic lacks treatment facilities and even qualified doctors.

Despite knowing very well that the lack of treatment including occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and acupuncture can lead to dangerous and irreparable consequences for Kasra Bani Amerian’s health,  Evin prison officials especially Ali Hashemi, the head of the prison, have denied him the right to medical treatment.

The complications of the illness include imbalance, weakness, and the gradual numbness of the muscles that move the body.

It is worth mentioning that in the past 21 months, despite the frequent follow-ups and the severe pain that Kasri Bani Amirian endures, he was sent to the hospital for occupational therapy and physiotherapy only for two very short periods of 10 sessions.

This is despite the fact that due to the lack of organization, continuous interruptions following long waiting times in the dispatch hall with handcuffs, and because at times, prison agents forced him to leave the treatment process half finished, not only did the treatment have no result, but it caused irreparable nerve and mental tension for Kasra.

The last time he was taken for treatment was more than 60 days ago.

The head of Evin Prison’s clinic and his assistant have postponed his treatment for two months which is a kind of torture for the ailing political prisoner.

Iran Human Rights Monitor holds Evin prison officials responsible for Kasra Bani Amerian’s health.
