Women political prisoners contract Coronavirus in Evin Prison

Iran-HRM – News from the women’s war of Evin Prison indicates a Coronavirus outbreak that has been rapidly spreading amidst overcrowded, unsanitary, and cramped conditions.

An increasing number of women political prisoners have been affected by the virus.

Political prisoners Parastoo Moini, Forugh Taghipour, Farangis Mazlum, and Fatemeh Mosanna are among those infected.
No medical care against the Coronavirus is provided for the detainees in this ward. Therefore, the prisoners’ health are at risk.

Political prisoner Fatemeh Mosanna who suffers from pre-existing medical conditions is now infected with the Coronavirus. By contracting the virus, her life is in great danger.

An informed source said that prison authorities do not treat Fatemeh Mosanna for the Coronavirus, and she is at risk of losing her life at any moment.

According to this source, “Before Fatemeh Mosanna contracted the virus, she was undergoing serum therapy to help her manage her medical and physical illnesses. She has internal bleeding and excretes blood. Now that she has been infected with Coronavirus, she may lose her life in prison.”

Fatemeh Mosanna, 53, is forced to remain in prison despite the doctors diagnosing her with GI disorders and stating that she cannot tolerate prison conditions.

Political prisoner Parastoo Moini who was among the women recently transferred to Evin Prison, has now contracted the Coronavirus.

Farangis Mazloum, the mother of former political prisoner Soheil Arabi, has also been infected with the virus. She suffers from severe health problems, including a heart condition and severe leg pain. She also suffered a brain stroke recently.
She has been diagnosed unfit to spend time in prison due to her health conditions. Nevertheless, she was summoned to the Implementation of Verdicts Unit of the Evin Prosecutor’s Office on August 2, 2022, and taken to Evin Prison to serve her time in prison.

Dozens of other prisoners also have symptoms of the disease in the women’s ward of Evin Prison. Overcrowding is the reason the wave of the Coronavirus has spread in the ward.

The number of detainees in the women’s ward has increased with 18 political prisoners being recently transferred from Qarchak Prison to Evin.

Despite the worrying conditions of the detainees in the women’s ward, the Evin Prison authorities do not provide care and medicines to those infected.
