According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, Behnam Mousivand was transferred to the quarantine ward of Evin Prison without notice on April 25 after his health began to deteriorate.

An informed source told Iran Human Rights: “Behnam’s cellmates protested after his health began deteriorating and officials said they would transfer him to health centre. But we found out that he’d been exiled to Evin Prison’s quarantine ward.”

Behnam Mousivand went on hunger strike on April 19 after being beaten by prison officials for refusing to be handcuffed and shackled to be transferred to the hospital for urgently required medical care.

Iran Human Rights previously reported on how Behnam Mousivand was transferred back and forth between wards and beaten as punishment for protesting against the lack of medical care for Behnam Mahjoubi, a Gonabadi dervish who died in custody after being denied medical care.

Behnam Mousivand, a civil activist who has previously been detained several times, surrendered to Evin Prison on June 14 to serve a five-year sentence. The Revolutionary Court had convicted him of “assembly and collusion against national security” and “propaganda against the system.”
