Tehran Police ‘Disciplined’ Over Violent Arrest Video

Iranwire – Two Tehran police officers have been subjected to disciplinary action after a video of them subjecting a woman to excessive force during an arrest was posted online.

The clip shared on Thursday showed the two officers, one male and one female, shoving a screaming woman into a waiting van with such force that her head hit the body of the vehicle.

Payam Kaviani, the head of Tehran’s security police, told Iranian media that the offending police officers had been disciplined. “In this instance,” he said, “the inappropriate and unconventional behavior of the agents was not acceptable.”

He did not give any further detail on the incident, or on the status of the detained woman shown in the video.

The unusual intervention comes after dozens of such incidents of police brutality have been recorded by citizens in recent years, most of which went unacknowledged by the authorities.

Women in Iranian cities in particular are often subjected to harassment and violence by the so-called “Morality Police”.
