Father of Murdered Protestor Beaten and Arrested at Family Gathering

Iranwire Manouchehr Bakhtiari, the father of Pouya Bakhtiari, one of the victims of the November 2019 protests, has been beaten up and arrested by the Islamic Republic’s security forces.

His mother released a video on Thursday, April 29, 2021, announcing the shocking details of her son’s detention.

Poya Bakhtiari’s grandmother said Manouchehr had been arrested at his brother’s house during a family gathering.

She herself, Manouchehr and other family members including his wife and young child were beaten during the raid, she said. Officers then reportedly threw Manouchehr into the trunk of a car and took him away.

“Who should I complain to in the Islamic Republic?” she asked in the video.

Activist and journalist Masih Alinejad wrote on her Instagram page that a ceremony was due to be held on Thursday at the grave of one of the victims of the November 2019 protests.

Manouchehr and his wife, Nahid Shirpisheh, have been repeatedly detained and harassed by Iranian government security forces for speaking out about their son’s killing.

The family has also repeatedly said that despite the pressure, they will not stop demanding justice and an end to regime brutality. At the turn of the new Iranian century in March, Manouchehr published a video in which he called for 1400 to be the year of “No to the Islamic Republic”.
