International religious freedom round table call for a letter in support of Baha’is

Shabtab – In an open letter the International religious freedom round table call for a letter in support of Baha’is.

Contents of the letter:

Dear IRF Roundtable Participants,

The Baha’is of the United States are circulating a letter regarding recent appellate court decisions endorsing the confiscation of some 50 homes and farms in the village of Ivel in Mazandaran Province in northern Iran. Please see below for more information from their organization:

Two very disturbing decisions were handed down by Iranian provincial appellate courts in August and October of 2020. They endorse the confiscation of all real property belonging to Baha’is in the Village of Ivel in Mazandaran Province. One of the decisions confirms a lower court ruling that Baha’is cannot own property in Ivel, while the other appellate decision references the first appellate decision as precedent.

Since these courts are at the appellate level, there is a significant risk that the decisions could be used as precedent elsewhere in Iran with devastating consequences. The sign-on letter addresses the two appellate judges who handed down the two decisions urging them to reverse them and restore the homes and farms of the Baha’is of Ivel.

To date, the letter has attracted 7 signatures.
