Radiofarda – The Islamic Republic’s foreign ministry on Sunday, August 2 sanctioned Richard Goldberg, a member of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies in Washington D.C.
A statement issues by the ministry’s spokesman’s office accused Mr. Goldberg of “effective participation” in “economic terrorism against the interests of the Islamic Republic of Iran and its citizens.”
The statement says the decision was made based on an Iranian law from 2017 “To confront violations of human rights and adventurist and terrorist moves by America in the region”.
Richard Goldberg is a senior advisor at FDD who served as the Director for Countering Iranian Weapons of Mass Destruction for the White House National Security Council from 2019-2020. He has also worked closely with United States Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook. He is an officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve.
In a tweet Goldberg said being sanctioned by Iran is a “badge of honor” because he served in the White House and coordinated President Donald Trump’s maximum pressure campaign against the Islamic Republic.
Iran had earlier sanctioned the FDD and its Chief Executive Mark Dubowitz.SEE ALSO:
