DorrTV Exclusive : The withdrawal of the Islamic Republic from the NPT Additional Protocol was key

Shabtabnews – According to DorrTV news sources, The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, Ali Khamenei, on the orders of the Supreme National Security Council and the government of Hassan Rouhani, has called for a comprehensive study of the Islamic Republic’s withdrawal from the NPT.

The Islamic Republic acceded to the Protocol on 18th December 2003, during the presence of the British, French and German Foreign Ministries in Tehran. The Iranian negotiating team, headed by Hassan Rouhani, the Secretary of the High Security Council Melli during that time, agreed to “voluntarily” sign and implement the Additional Protocol as means of “building trust” with European countries!

The NPT Protocol of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) is a document designed to enhance the effectiveness of the safeguard system for participating in global non-proliferation objectives for countries that have a safeguards agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency. IAEA member states must accept the Protocol as an “annex to the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement”.

Under this Additional Protocol, inspection is the prerogative of the Agency and, unlike “special inspection”, does not require the approval of the Board of Governors. On the other hand, the Agency has the right to access wherever it deems necessary in the performance of its duties in its inspections under the “Attachment”

If the Islamic Republic decides to withdraw from this international treaty, it will big gamble as it will have broad consequences and can even lead to military actions.
