Iran Human Rights (IHR) – At least three prisoners sentenced to “retaliation in kind” for premeditated murder have been executed in Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj.
According to Iranian Human Rights, at least three prisoners were executed in Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj on the morning of Wednesday, July 1st. The three prisoners, who had been sentenced to “retribution in-kind” for premeditated murder, were transferred to solitary confinement in a group of six on June 28th.
The identities of three of the prisoners have been established as Mostafa Mohammadi, Milad Kheradmand and Hossein Jalalvand.
Javaneh-ha website, which first broke the news of the execution of Hossein Jalalvand, quoted an informed source as saying: “Hossein Jalalvand lived in Tehran, Nezamabad intersection, South Sabalan Street. Next to his house, a number of addicts were using drugs. One day, Hussein Jalalvand set fire to the motorcycle belonging to one of the addicts in protest to the drug use near his house, but without knowing it, he burned a number of the addicts inside the ruins. Although he did not have a private plaintiff and no one made a claim against him, the Tehran prosecutor acted as his plaintiff and he was sentenced to death which was carried out.”
The executions of the three prisoners have not been announced by the Iranian media or official sources.
According to Iran Human Rights’ annual report, at least 225 of the 280 of those executed in 2019 were charged with “premeditated murder.”
As there are no legal distinctions made between murder and manslaughter, whether voluntary or involuntary in Iran, those charged under the umbrella term of “premeditated murder” will receive the death penalty regardless of intent (mens rea) and the circumstances.Share this
