Iran: Prisoner Executed in Iranshahr Prison

Iran Human Rights (IHR) – A Baloch man sentenced to “retribution” for premeditated murder has been executed in Iranshahr Prison.

According to the Baloch Activists Campaign, on the morning of Tuesday, July 1, 2020, the death penalty of a Baloch man was carried out in Iranshahr Prison. The prisoner, whose identity has been verified as Vahid Mirbaloch-Zehi, had been imprisoned for 10 years on charges of “premeditated murder” and was being held in Iranshahr Prison.

The execution of this prisoner has not been announced by the media inside Iran or official sources until the moment this news was prepared.

According to Iran Human Rights’ annual report, at least 225 of the 280 of those executed in 2019 were charged with “premeditated murder.”

As there are no legal distinctions made between murder and manslaughter, whether voluntary or involuntary in Iran, those charged under the umbrella term of “premeditated murder” will receive the death penalty regardless of intent (mens rea) and the circumstances.
