US Mission In Geneva Condemns Fatalities In Iran Protests

Radiofarda – The U.S. Mission in Geneva has strongly condemned the Iranian authorities for “acts of violence committed against Iranian protesters”, in tweet on November 21.

The Mission in Geneva represents U.S. interests at the United Nations bodies and other international organizations based in that city.

In the tweet the U.S. Mission expresses its deep concern over reports of fatalities and urges the Islamic Republic to “heed the demands of its people and stop flagrantly violating their #HumanRights”.

It also reminds Iran that that the UN Human Rights Council has made a similar demand from Iran this month when Iran’s human rights record was discussed in the framework of Universal Periodic Review.

The U.S. State Department, the White House and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo have also issued similar statements expressing concern over the violent reaction of the Iranian government toward citizens protesting an increase in the price of gasoline in recent days.

We strongly condemn acts of violence committed against Iranian protesters by their own government, and are deeply concerned by reports of fatalities. As we said during #UPR34, #Iran must heed the demands of its people and stop flagrantly violating their #HumanRights.
