Outspoken Political Prisoner In Iran Moved To Unknown Location

Radiofarda – The Islamic Republic authorities have moved an outspoken political prisoner, Farhad Maysami, from Tehran’s infamous Evin prison to an unknown location, reports say.

The news initially appeared on a Telegram Channel that supports an imprisoned teacher, Mohammad Habibi.

Two weeks ago, Evin authorities deprived Maysami and Habibi of receiving visitors after they protested their unbearable condition behind bars.

Earlier, in a letter to the Islamic Republic head of the judiciary, Maysami had protested the appointment of a new warden for Tehran’s notorious Evin prison.

Explicitly accusing the newly appointed warden of “violating prisoners’ rights” in an “unprecedented manner,” Maysami had called upon Ebrahim Raeesi (Raeisi) to dismiss Gholamreza Ziyaee.

The new warden Ziyaee is an “oxymoron,” Maysami had argued, adding that one session with him was enough to see he was “absolutely unqualified” for his position and lacks the attributes needed for running a prison.

Maysami (Meysami), an anti-compulsory hijab activist went further in his letter, calling for the dismissal of the director of the Islamic Republic’s prisons, Asghar Jahangir.

“If Jahangir is not dismissed, we the powerless people will resist and disregard his orders by civil disobedience, and practically bring him down,” Maysami warned in his letter, dated October 16.

A physician, publisher, and civil rights activist, Farhad Maysami, 48, was arrested on July 31, 2018 according to his mother. He was sentenced to six years in prison in January.

In an exclusive interview with Radio Farda at the time of his arrest, Maysami’s mother, Seddiqeh Pishnamaz, had said that the only reason her son was arrested was owning lapel pins which read “I protest compulsory hijab.”

In September 2018, more than 2,000 doctors and activists signed a ltter demanding Maysami’s release from prison.

Meanwhile, Mysami’s attorney, Mohammad Moqimi, said his client’s health is in “horrifying” condition, with high blood pressure, and his weight has dropped to 57 kg (roughly 125 pounds).
