Iranian Civil Activist Zahra Mohammadi Still Under Arrest With No Access To Lawyer

Zahra Mohammadi, 27, a member of Nojin Socio-Cultural Association, was arrested by security forces in her home in Sanandaj city on May 23, 2019. Almost two months after her arrest, Zahra is still detained in Sanandaj prison without access to a lawyer.
One of her relatives told IHR, “Authorities do not allow lawyers to represent her. Several lawyers have tried to do so, with no success. We even don’t know why Zahra is arrested and what is she accused of! They (authorities) just said that she is under interrogation for security reasons and she cannot have any lawyer in this phase.”
Her family have talked with her a few times by phone while she was behind glass.
“She does not know what her charges are. No one knows! And this is worrisome,” the relative said.
Zahra is a Kurdish language teacher at Nojin Socio-Cultural Association. The association was established 8 years ago with the permission of the authorities in the Iranian Kurdistan province. Nojin association is focused on environmental activities as well as Kurdish cultural education, including teaching the Kurdish language to children and adults.
