Pompeo Says U.S. Planning A Global Summit Focused On Iran

Radiofarda – U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo who is touring the Middle East has said that the United States plans to host a global summit focused on the Middle East, particularly Iran, next month in Poland.

Pompeo disclosed the latest plan of the Trump administration in an interview with Fox News published on Friday.

Pompeo said the gathering would be held Feb. 13 to Feb. 14 to “focus on Middle East stability and peace and freedom and security here in this region, and that includes an important element of making sure that Iran is not a destabilizing influence”.

Pompeo is in Bahrain on Friday and will travel on to the United Arab Emirates, where according the the State Department he will explain the U.S. withdrawal from Syria and ramp up support for increased pressure on Iran.

He’ll also be promoting a U.S.-backed initiative to form what some have termed an “Arab NATO” that would bring the region together in a military alliance to counter threats from Iran.

Pompeo will continue his tour visiting Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Kuwait.

Before travelling to the Guld, Pompeo delivered a speech in Cairo where he criticized the policies of the Obama administration in the region and promised to get “the last Iranian” out of Syria.

“The nations of the Middle East will never enjoy security, achieve economic stability, or advance the dreams of its peoples if Iran’s revolutionary regime persists on its current course,” Pompeo said.
