MP Says Senior Positions Being Auctioned Off To Highest Bidders In Iran

Radiofarda – A member of Majles (Iranian parliament) has accused President Hassan Rouhani’s government of placing high positions at the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare under the hammer.

During the parliament session to discuss a cabinet reshuffle on Saturday, October 27, Oramanat representative, Shehab Naderi dismissed the qualification of Rouhani’s nominee for the ministry, Mohammad Shariatmadari, insisting that a number of high positions at the Ministry, including General Manager are sold up to five trillion rials (roughly $120,000).”

Lambasting Shariatmadari for a weak speech in parliament, Naderi maintained, “Even membership of the board of directors at the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare has its own price. The nominee was expected to clarify such problems.”

Responding to the criticism, Shariatmadari promised that if the MP’s comments proved authentic, he would ask the judiciary to prosecute those responsible for the violation.

Former Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade, Shariatmadari, was nominated to replace Ali Rabiei as the Minster of Labor at a time when more than eighty MPs had called for his impeachment.

However, parliament approved all Rouhani nominees for the ministries of “Industry, Mines and Trade”, “Finance and Economic Affairs”, “Roads and Urban Development” and “Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare” on Saturday, October 27.
