About 150 Injured as 3 Earthquakes Rock Iran

VOA – A 5.9-magnitude quake rattled Kermanshah province, in western Iran near the border with Iraq, Sunday, injuring nearly 150 people, the head of the country’s disaster response agency said.

Pirhossein Kolivand, head of the country’s natural disasters response agency, told state television that 146 people were injured, including 21 who were taken to hospitals for treatment. He did not say anyone was killed in the tremor.

Earlier Sunday, 4.7- and 5.7-magnitude quakes hit Hormozgan province, south of Tehran.

No injuries were reported but the twin temblors damaged several buildings.

“Reports indicate that some walls have collapsed, but extensive damage has not been reported,” Morteza Salimi, head of Iran’s Red Crescent society, told official news agency IRNA.

Last November, a magnitude 7.3 earthquake in Kermanshah province killed at least 620 people and injured thousands.
