Khorasan Razavi Judicial Official Announces Hefty Prison Terms For 11 Dissident Activists In Mashhad

Iran-HRM – The Deputy Prosecutor of the Khorasan Razavi Public and Revolutionary Court, Judge Hasan Heidari, said that a divorced couple who were members of dissident groups and had lit fire to a mosque were arrested.

“According to a verdict issued by the court of first instance, the woman, 37, was sentenced to five years of prison for membership in dissident groups, one year of prison for spreading propaganda against the Islamic Republic, three years of prison for destroying public property and five years of prison for blasphemy by lighting fire to a mosque,” he said.

“The accused man, 41, was sentenced to six months of prison for complicity in spreading propaganda against the Islamic Republic, two years of prison for complicity in membership in dissident groups, two years of prison for complicity in blasphemy via lighting fire to a mosque and six month of prison for keeping 39 bullets,” the Deputy Prosecutor added.

“In the same dossier, a young woman who was arrested for membership in dissident groups and sending videos and pictures to satellite channels, who was also according to investigations, in contact with (the PMOI) with the aim of disrupting security, after court sessions held in the 4th branch of the Revolutionary Court, was sentenced to five years of prison on charges of membership in dissident groups and one year of prison for recording and sending videos to dissident satellite channels,” Hasan Heidari said.

Heidari also said that a 26-year-old man was sentenced to one year of prison for graffiti writing against Islamic values.
Referring to the arrest of a young couple who were charged with burning the curtain of Imam Hadi Mosque, he said that the 26 year old man was sentenced to five years of prison for membership in dissident groups with the aim of disrupting security.

“He was sentenced to another five years of prison for blasphemy via burning the mosque curtain, and one year of prison for spreading propaganda against the Islamic Republic while his 21-year-old wife was sentenced to one year of prison for spreading propaganda through publishing a video,” he added.

Another young man who was detained after setting fire to Imam Hadi Mosque in Mashhad was sentenced to five years of prison for blasphemy through setting fire to the mosque, five years of prison for membership in dissident groups and one year of prison for propaganda in favor of dissident groups.

“A 38-year-old man who was arrested in Mashhad for defaming Shia beliefs by publishing videos of unconventional and violent mourning ceremonies, was sentenced to one year of prison after he was tried in court,” Heidari said.

“Two young people aged 19 and 20 who were arrested on charges of spreading propaganda against the government and membership in a dissident group, were each sentenced to six years of prison,” he added.

“A person was also arrested by the IRGC in Sabzevar and after being tried in the 4th Branch the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Mashhad, was sentenced to one year of prison on charges of propaganda against the government and five years of prison for membership in a dissident group”, the Deputy Prosecutor of the Khorasan Razavi Public and Revolutionary Court said.
