Iran: Activist Taken To Prison For Commemorating Labor Day

Iran-HRM – Labor activist Othman Esmaeili was taken to Saqez Prison on February 27, 2018, to serve two months behind bars.

Othman Esmaeili had been arrested by plainclothes agents on April 28, 2015, for participating Labor Day ceremony. In October 2015, he was sentenced to one year in prison, but he appealed the verdict. Subsequently in February 2016, he was sentenced to two months behind bars by the 4th branch of appeal court of Kurdistan Province.

Othman Esmaeili has been charged with “spreading propaganda in favor of opposition groups” through “participating Labor Day ceremony.”
