Iran’s Siamand Rahman clinches gold at 2017 World Para Powerlifting Championships

PayvandNews – Iranian Paralympic powerlifter Siamand Rahman has produced a magnificent display of strength and prowess at the 2017 World Para Powerlifting Championships in Mexico, and been awarded the top honor.

On Thursday and the sixth day of the contests in Mexico City, the men’s over 107-kilogram weight category saw a battle between the 29-year-old Iranian sportsman, his compatriot Mansour Pourmirzaei and Jordan’s Jamil Elshebli.

Rahman cleared the bar in his first attempt of 265 kilogram. The Iranian competitor achieved 275 kilograms in the second attempt.

In the third attempt, he attempted 285 kilograms and was successful to pick up the gold medal.

Pourmirzaei finished with silver with 241 kilograms. Elshebli lifted 235 kilograms and took the bronze.

“I am happy for this title and want to dedicate it to my family, friends and all the people in Iran,” Rahman commented after the contest.
The 2017 World Para Powerlifting Championships kicked off on December 2, and will conclude on December 8.

The Islamic Republic of Iran National Paralympic Committee (IRINPC) has dispatched a 14-strong powerlifting delegation to the world championships.
