Iran Makes More Allegations Against Jailed British-Iranian Woman

RFL/RE – Iranian state television has aired more allegations against a detained Iranian-British woman, something which, according to her husband, appeared timed to increase pressure on London as it considers making a $530 million debt payment to Tehran.

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, already serving a five-year prison sentence for allegedly planning the “soft toppling” of Iran’s government while traveling there with her toddler daughter, now faces fresh charges that could add 16 years to her prison term.

On November 23, Iranian state television aired a seven-minute special report on Zaghari-Ratcliffe.

It included close-ups of an April 2010 pay stub from her previous employer, the BBC World Service Trust.

Authorities in Iran reportedly have set December 10 as the date for Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s trial to begin on charges of spreading propaganda.
