Putin Plans To Visit Iran In November For Talks With Iranian, Azerbaijani Counterparts

RFL/RE – The Kremlin says Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to visit Iran on November 1 to take part in a meeting with his Iranian and Azerbaijani counterparts.

“Preparations for the visit are under way,” Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on October 12, according to Russian news agencies.

Earlier, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov said that Putin was scheduled to travel to Iran before the end of the year to attend the trilateral summit.

Citing the Iranian Embassy in Baku, Azerbaijani media reported that Putin, Iranian President Hassan Rohani, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev will meet in Tehran on November 1 to discuss regional cooperation.

The first such trilateral summit was held in Baku in August 2016, with the three leaders saying that the new format should help improve ties between the three Caspian Sea states. At the meeting, Putin, Rohani, and Aliyev discussed joint economic projects, including a north-south transport corridor plan.
