HRANA News Agency – Saeid Rezai, one of the seven former directors of Baha’i community of Iran, imprisoned in Rajai Shahr prison, in Karaj, is on the eve of the tenth year of imprisonment without leave. Despite approval by the specialist doctor in prison and the forensic doctor to have an arthroscopy and necessary period of rehabilitation after surgery, judicial officials are refusing his medical leave.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Saeed Rezai has faced knee meniscus multifaceted and widespread tear since a few months ago because of severe trauma in the left leg. Despite approval by the specialist doctor in prison and the forensic doctor to have an emergency arthroscopy and necessary period of rehabilitation and physiotherapy after the surgery, his medical leave is being refused.
Mr. Rezai who is on the eve of the tenth year of serving his imprisonment sentence in Rajai Shahr prison, in Karaj, has to use sticks to go to the clinic and visiting halls, and is suffering from severe pain in the knee.
Asthma, osteoporosis, gastrointestinal diseases, coronary artery stenosis, are his other health problems.
It should be stressed that this Baha’i citizen has not have a furlough yet.
Saeid Rezai, on the seven former directors of Iranian Baha’i community, who was arrested along with five other members of the delegation of seven members named Fariba Kamalabadi, Jamaluddin Khanjani, Afif Naimi, Behrouz Tavakkoli and Vahid Tizfahm, following the attack by the security agents to their homes, and was transferred to Evin prison, on May 14, 2008. That happened after arresting Mahvash Sabet, one of the managers, in March 2008.
It should be noted that Tehran security prosecutor had announced the issuance of culpability order for seven Baha’i citizens on charges of “espionage for Israel”, “insulting religious sanctities” and “propaganda against the Islamic Republic”, in February 2009. Each of these people was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment by Branch 28 of Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided by Judge Moghiseh, in August 2010.
After this verdict, Mr. Rezai was moved to Rajai Shahr prison and for 6 months was held with prisoners of general crimes in ward 6 of this prison, and then was transferred to Hall 12 of political prisoners in ward 4.
