Ayatollah Nekounam in Critical Health Condition in Prison

HRANA News Agency – The general health condition of Ayatollah Nekounam, critic clergy who is imprisoned in Saheli prison of Qom, has deteriorated again. Despite facing pain in kidney, eye sore that is the result of kidney infection and rise of blood sugar, authorities are preventing him from being transferred to prison clinic.


According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), the general health condition of Ayatollah Nekounam is reported critical due to infection in his kidneys and high blood suger.

Despite his bad condition and change in heart rhythm, authorities in Saheli prison of Qom are preventing him from being transferred to prison clinic.

This is while forensic has issued the order of his inability of serving the punishment for the third time. But the same as previous times this has been ignored by special court of clergies.

Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Nekounam, Shiite Marja and dissident cleric, was held in Qom prison with a sentence of 5 years imprisonment. After about 18 months imprisonment on June 23, he was transferred from prison to his home, but after a short time he was arrested at his home, on July 7, and again was transferred to Saheli prison in Qom.

In the previous reports it had not been clear if he was out of prison for furlough or on parole.In such a short time of freedom, security forces were monitoring the commuting to the house of Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Nekonam and imposed illegal restrictions on his ties and calls, although he was not in the prison.
