A Prisoner Chained to the Flagpole in the Yard of Ardebil Prison

HRANA News Agency – A newly arrived prisoner was chained to a flagpole in the yard of Ardebil prison since February 8, 2017 for 2 days. The prison authorities have tortured him in the cold weather for at least 48 hours on suspicion that the detainee had carried drugs in his abdomen. Ardebil prison officials had done such tortures previously.


According to the report of Human Rights Activist News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Abbas Alipur, a prisoner who had newly arrived to the central prison of Ardebil was chained to a flagpole by handcuffs and shackles in the yard of Ardebil prison on February 8, 2017.

A source close to Alipur family told HRANA’s reporter, “Since February 8, 2017, the prison authorities have tortured him in the cold weather for at least 48 hours on suspicion that the detainee had carried the drugs in his abdomen.”

The source added, “Abbas was held in the yard in this condition even at nights.”

It should be stressed that Ardebil prison officials had done such inhumane acts previously, too.
