IRAN HUMAN RIGHTS –  Iran Human Rights (IHR) reported yesterdayabout the imminent danger of execution for more than 10 prisoners in Karaj Central Prison. According to IHR sources 12 prisoners were executed in this prison early this morning, Saturday August 27.

IHR sources have identified nine of the prisoners who were executed this morning:
“Alireza Madadbour, Bahman Rezaei, Arman Bahrami, Alireza Asadi (picture), Mohsen Eslami, Hossein Bayrami, Mehdi Rostami, Amir Sarkhah and Alireza Sarkhah”.  All the prisoners had been sentenced to death for drug-related charges.

The executions were carried our despite the urgent call by the UN Special Rapporteur Ahmed Shaheed on Iranian authorities to halt the executions.

During the past two years several high ranking Iranian officials have admitted that the executions haven’t deterred drug crimes. But still, Iranian authorities continue execution of hundreds every year for such charges.
